Jessie Carter has always known that one day Black Stallion Tavern would be hers. Her grandfather built it with his own hands in the relentless Texas heat. But when her beloved grandfather dies unexpectedly, he leaves her more than a business; he leaves her a legacy. Determined to honor her grandfather’s dream, Jessie is ready to make the tavern her own.

Then one day Keith Branson, a successful California businessman, walks through the door. Their connection is immediate, undeniable; and complicated. Jessie doesn’t have time for a relationship. Caring for her mother with a lasting brain injury from a near-fatal car accident, and running the tavern, leaves little time for love, but there’s something about Keith; a pull so strong she can’t get him out of her head.

As Jessie and Keith grow closer, he becomes the one person she can lean on as her world begins to unravel. When a frightening incident makes it clear that her mother can no longer live safely alone, Jessie is forced to confront a future she never expected—placing the woman who raised her in a care facility. Hidden among Jessie’s family belongings is a photograph of a man he immediately recognizes. He keeps the discovery from Jessie and begins searching for the truth. But the closer he gets to the answers, the more he fears what they could mean: for Jessie, for him, and for a relationship that may be built on secrets neither of them is prepared to face.
